When a woman is violated by rape, incest, or battering she usually feels humiliated and fearful. Embarrassment may prevent her from asking her friends or family for help. The crisis line provides her with a safe way to break the barriers of silence and isolation that often accompany domestic violence and sexual assault.

Staff and volunteers who answer the crisis line help callers assess their immediate needs and provide emotional support. The crisis worker then provides women with referrals for medical care, legal aid, shelter, and other needed services.

Crisis Intervention

Women's Support and Community Services provides a lifeline for women reaching out to break their silence. Staff and trained volunteers answer over 10,000 crisis line calls annually. Many callers simply need someone who will listen … listen as they reveal, often for the first time, the trauma they have experienced. Others are desperately seeking emergency transportation to safe shelter. The crisis line is a resource for women who simply don't know where else to turn
